SEG is seeking a Mid-Level Aerospace Engineer to support our customer in King George, VA.

Systems Engineering Group, Inc. (SEG) is a highly regarded provider of air and missile defense threat engineering and combat, radar, and missile systems engineering and analysis. Principal customers include the U.S. Navy, Missile Defense Agency, and DOD prime item developers.  SEG is headquartered in Columbia, MD with offices in Dahlgren, VA and Moorestown, NJ. and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Astrion Corporation.

SEG is seeking enthusiastic candidates to be part of our threat missile modeling and simulation team located in Dahlgren, VA.  This position directly supports the Navy’s Digital Threat Engineering team that provides high fidelity threat engineering simulations of anti-ship cruise missile, anti-ship ballistic missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles, hypersonic cruise missiles, aero-ballistic missiles, and other foreign missile and aircraft systems that threaten the U.S. Navy.  SEG provides an intellectually stimulating environment with excellent opportunities for technical and leadership growth.

What you will do...

  • Development of US scientific and technical all-source intelligence-based simulations to characterize the performance of threat anti-ship ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aero-ballistic missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles, and hypersonic glide vehicle performance for use in supporting Navy operational testing of hardkill and softkill performance via model and simulation in the Navy M&S testbeds.  The candidate will include:
    • Development of 6DOF aerodynamics, mass properties, propulsion system performance, guidance, navigation and control algorithms, seeker/sensor algorithms for search, detection, track, and decision logic for target selection and ECCM.
    • Characterization of threat missile performance envelopes including development of understanding of the impact of intelligence uncertainty on the overall flight performance and characteristics that impact Navy radar and weapon system designs.
    • Executing design trade studies to fill in intelligence gaps to inform decisions regarding engineering modeling and simulation representations of foreign missile systems.
    • Modeling of threat flight variations due to variations in environmental factors, modeling uncertainties, and missile-round to round variations.
  • Documentation and presentation of work to internal and external customers
  • Support of ongoing activities in developing a high fidelity Six Degrees-of-Freedom (6-DOF) digital flight simulation architecture and environment
  • Performing research and augmenting toolsets to enhance modeling techniques and improve current modeling and simulation processes

Skills you will need...

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be US citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (please ask if this is new to you); SCI eligible is preferred
  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering (advanced degrees preferred)
  • Candidates must possess at least 6+ years of applicable work experience
  • Candidates should demonstrate experience and capability in one or more of the following areas: analysis and modeling of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and/or hypersonic systems including flight dynamics, vehicle performance characterization, propulsion system design, supersonic/hypersonic aerodynamic prediction, guidance, navigation, control, and flight test data analysis
  • Candidates must be familiar with MATLAB and/or Python programming languages
  • Candidates must be able to communicate well through written documentation and oral presentations
  • Good leadership skills: the ability to mentor and train others as well as the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop high quality products in a timely and cost efficient manner
  • Candidates must be good communicators with both verbal and written English language.  They must be able to be able to clearly and concisely express their ideas and defend their work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with the C++ programming language
  • Active DoD Top-Secret clearance desired
