Systems Engineering Group, Inc. (SEG) has a job opening for a full-time Aero/Mechanical Engineer and is seeking enthusiastic candidates wanting a challenging career with good growth opportunities.

What you will do...

  • Develop a comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) capability and team at SEG including CFD roadmap that identifies staffing plans, onsite computational infrastructures, use of DoD High Performance Computing Centers (HPCC), network requirements, meshing and computational fluid dynamics, mesh generation, and post-processing software programs and tools, and development of processes and procedures for executing and developing CFD results and evaluating those results in comparison to other available data.
  • Identify, acquire, and deploy of mesh generation software and deployment on SEG and DoD HPC computational platforms.
  • Participate in the identification, acquisition and deployment of various CFD software and tools and their deployment on SEG and DOD HPCC computational platforms.
  • Utilize of various meshing techniques applicable to the aero/thermodynamic problem being analyzed.
  • Collaborate with staff in the use of various CFD tools applicable to the aero/thermodynamic problem being analyzed.
  • Perform meshing and CFD analyses on flight vehicles (primarily missiles) traveling at hypersonic, supersonic, and subsonic speeds to determine the force and moment coefficients and damping derivatives to support six degrees of freedom flight dynamic to support stability and control algorithm development and tuning, force and moment loading for structural and vibrational analyses, and aerothermal loading for vehicle geometric design, material selection, and thermal survivability analyses.
  • Perform meshing and CFD analyses on propulsion systems including solid rocket motors, ramjets, scramjets, and turbojets/turbofans including the hot-gas plume characteristics including chemically reacting flowfields.
  • Conduct hypersonics aerodynamic research and contribute to research into hypersonic propulsion initiatives including liquid and solid propellant scramjet powered vehicles.
  • Perform meshing and CFD analyses of chemically reacting flow fields resulting from the ionization, dissociation, and entry of ablative materials and outgassing from hypersonic vehicles thermal protective system for use in RF/IR signature attenuation of the vehicle’s body and the creation of RF/IR wake signatures.
  • Contribute to aerodynamic, thermal, and survivability modeling and simulation activities of hypersonic glide and hypersonic cruise missiles in support of missile defense initiatives.
  • Develop reports, memoranda, and presentations documenting research and analyses work and present to SEG staff, management, government customers, laboratories, field activities, and prime item developments.

Skills you will need...

  • Active DoD Secret clearance (TS active clearance preferred)
  • BS degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering with coursework and subsequent work experience in CFD, fluid mechanics and grid generation/meshing techniques.
  • 5+ years direct work experience in the application of meshing and CFD analyses to vehicle aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and chemically reacting flowfields.
  • Good meshing/grid generation skills required.
  • Strong knowledge and application of CFD tools to the types of hypersonic, supersonic, and subsonic, chemically-reacting flowfield problems being solved.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in all the following areas: Meshing, CFD, Aerodynamics, Aerothermodynamics, Hypersonic flowfields, and propulsive, chemically-reacting flowfields.
  • Good computational/programming skills required (MATLAB, Python, and/or C++ preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively plan and develop an exceptional CFD team capability.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and train staff in mesh generation techniques, their application in CFD analyses, conducting CFD analyses for hypersonic aerodynamics prediction, thermal analyses, and chemically reacting flowfield analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well through written documentation and oral presentations.
