Your typical day – Our MDA analysts and engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal. Redstone Arsenal is located in Huntsville, Alabama, otherwise known as “Rocket City.” Huntsville is the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with other missile defense experts – military, government civilians, and contractors from Axient and other companies. Our team of experts helps the Government manage planning, development, and delivery of state-of-the art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems. As a member of MDA’s Test Design and Analysis division, the Basic Engineer will provide critical flight test analysis to ensure the success of the MDA flight test program.  

What you will do...

The candidate will use their knowledge and technical skills to support MDA’s Test Directorate in all aspects of flight test planning and range safety analysis. The candidate will utilize core engineering and analytical skills to optimize target and interceptor missile trajectory data to perform quantitative safety and risk analyses of flight test designs to ensure ballistic missile flight / intercept tests can be conducted safely on national test ranges. Candidate will also perform studies to include telemetry link assessments that ensure flight test architecture meets data collection requirements In addition, the candidate will develop range safety data products for use by MDA external organizations, to include national test ranges in their independent safety assessments of flight tests. The candidate may also assist in developing algorithms and models to facilitate assessments that meet standard risk parameters. Furthermore, the candidate will schedule, participate in, and present analysis at working group meetings, peer reviews and other technical meetings. The candidate should have strong oral and written communications skills and be comfortable communicating to the customer and senior managementCandidate should be self-motivated, with the ability to make proper, timely decisions and recommendations 

Skills you will need...

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • BS in an engineering field 
  • Active or ability to obtain Secret security clearance 
  • Experience with software/script development (MATLAB, Python, Java, C++ and other programming languages) 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) 
  • Critical thinking and problem solving 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently perform multiple tasks 
  • Ability to work with a team in a dynamic environment 
  • Self-starter with willingness to learn 

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) organization and Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) design, performance and testing 
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel and senior leaders 
  • Knowledge of range safety standards, to include the Range Commander’s Council standards related to flight and range safety 
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Flight Termination Systems and Autonomous Flight Safety Systems
