Axient is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team at our Software Product Development Center in Melbourne, Florida!

 

You will be part of a responsive software team that designs and develops software solutions for use by NASA, Space Force, the FAA, and various commercial aerospace customers. These products are used to support the following aspects of Space launch and re-entry: Mission planning, real-time telemetry tracking, risk analysis, situational awareness, and autonomous termination. You will be working on mission critical software that is developed with, JavaScript, MATLAB, and other languages for Windows platforms.

What you will do...

 

What you will do (primary responsibilities):

 

As a member of the Development Team, you will:

  • Design, develop, and test mission and safety critical software in all phases of product development and operational deployment 
  • Translate customer and system requirements into robust & maintainable software design with a test-driven approach 
  • Ensure software quality by performing thorough requirements analysis, design, and code reviews, and writing unit tests 
  • Interact with Test Engineers to understand/define requirements, design software and system architectures, and generate test procedures 
  • Plan and estimate development tasks and work to improve performance metrics
  • Interact with government and commercial space teams by attending technical reviews 
  • Investigate and solve production system issues with a focus on customer service 
  • Use Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git to manage work and collaborate with your teams while consistently meeting deadlines
  • Support creation and updating of all relevant documentation and specifications for design, development, and testing

The applicant will be required to possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other STEM field with software development experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance upon hire.
  • 3 or more years of experience in JavaScript, or programming in industry, internships, or academia 
  • Strong working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design 
  • Experience working with SQL and/or relational database in general
  • Working knowledge of software version control tools (Bitbucket preferred)
  • Experience with Agile development tools (Atlassian Jira/Confluence preferred)
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (Jenkins preferred)
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment (Scrum preferred)
  • Ability to serve as a project lead and coordinate task coverage to ensure project completion within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Strong, self-motivated desire to learn new programming languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse, technical team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to mentor junior members of the team

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline
  • Scrum Master certification and experience
  • Knowledge or experience in safety or mission critical space launch/re-entry industry.
  • Experience with Web-based Technologies application development
  • Experience working with AS9100 and CMMI-Dev/3 processes.
