Axient is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Designer - FRCS (Facility-Related Control Systems) to support the US Space Force (USSF) and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Operational Energy-Innovation (OE-I) office in a variety of operational energy projects in the Pentagon Washington DC.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in client-facing Cybersecurity design consulting, coordinating across multi-discipline teams on combined Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) solutions for DAF plans and projects.

 

 

What you will do...

 

The candidate will be responsible for supporting the Headquarters Air Force (HAF) in gathering information on the status of cybersecurity for Facility Related Control Systems (FRCS) throughout the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and presenting this information to Air Force leadership in support of DAF development of strategies to address gaps and shortfalls.  Supporting the objective of establishing a resilient and sustained cybersecurity architecture(s) and programs for AF FRCS infrastructure, the candidate will support the HAF in establishing FRCS cybersecurity policies’, designs, operations concepts, programs and projects for new and existing installations, renovations, and system upgrades.  Staff work includes cybersecurity of DAF Facility Related Control Systems (FRCS), assessing risk and driving IT / OT network security and secure service hosting designs. Candidate is expected to meet and maintain IAT / IAM DoD Level 3 requirements (DoD 8570 Baseline) and have proficiency in the assessment and staffing of FRCS designs and specifications in support of HQ AF developed of strategies, plans, programing and budgeting to assess FRCS cybersecurity capabilities and needs.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Participates in development and staffing of strategies, plans and programs, including technology and infrastructure projects, providing subject matter expertise (SME) on FRCS infrastructure, including network and data security design, operations concepts, and multi-discipline coordination across the DAF installations and facilities.

 

Supports DAF in ensuring new and existing projects involving IT/OT systems are built and designed according to Department of Defense and similar cybersecurity best practices, applicable directives, and industry applicable frameworks and standards.

 

Supports and leads DAF and partner workshops for requirements definition, existing conditions gathering, design analysis / alternatives, and similar technical and project related topics.

Manage the current AF/A4 FRCS cybersecurity workload and project, responsibilities assigned and report to the HQ AF/A4  staff, including status of cybersecurity and mitigation architectures, and lifecycle costs and impacts.

Support on-site surveys and analysis, including but not limited to existing conditions gathering, observation of system testing, assessments, and audits.

Support other Air Staff duties as assigned.

  

Include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting HQ Air Force A4, SAF/IE and DAF FRCS cybersecurity teams and projects including design, planning, consulting and assessments.
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 in assigned task deliverables, quality and budgets for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 in the establishment and assessments of FRCS cybersecurity, network and system specification design deliverables to address cybersecurity risks, plans and strategy(ies).
  • Integrate security control needs and requirements necessary to mitigate to an acceptable level of risk of FRCS facilities and systems, through application of risk management framework concepts and infrastructure design architectures.
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 meetings and provide supporting staff deliverables as needed, and other meetings, forums and workshops as directed.   
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 cybersecurity control systems master planning efforts
  • Maintain Cybersecurity , FRCS and IT network related certifications.
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 in FRCS cybersecurity system/network cybersecurity risk and capabilities assessments.
  • Supporting HQ AF A4 development of tools, processes, procedures and guidelines to support the development of FRCS Cybersecurity activities.

Skills you will need...

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science or Engineering, or related STEM degree. 

7 or more years of experience designing, consulting, staffing within FRCS cybersecurity systems, including related hardware, information security or network security disciplines, preferably including military systems and infrastructure.

Diverse knowledge of IT / OT network and service security design patterns, standards, current market products.

 

Desired Experience

Master’s degree in cybersecurity, infrastructure protection, or engineering highly desired.

Experience directly developing or overseeing deliverable documentation common in Federal and Architecture & Engineering industry (e.g. formal design narratives, specifications & cybersecurity architecture / riser drawings).

Clear understanding of the cybersecurity lifecycle and NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF).

Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT/SCADA) cybersecurity systems, infrastructure, and practices.

Experience assessing, designing or consulting related to security controls including NIST 800-53, 800-161, 800-37.

Professional certification(s) meeting IAT/IAM Level III (3), for example Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); see DoD 8570 Baseline.

Experience developing Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG) checklists. (Preferred)

Knowledge of wireless security concepts and tools. (Preferred)

Knowledge of virtual hosting and container orchestration technologies e.g. vSphere, Kubernetes, Hyper-V, etc. (Preferred)

 

Completion of a Professional Engineer licensce (PE)

Experience as a Certified Energy Managers (CEM

Travel

Position may require travel as much as 25% annually in rough terrain and remote locations, potentially including accessing elevated facilities, and the ability to carry supplies and equipment necessary for assessments of infrastructures and related systems.
