Overview

NASA's GLOBE program is an international science and education program aimed at promoting the teaching and learning of science and the environment for schools and interested citizen scientists around the world. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an important project which involves over 125 countries, 40,000 schools and 300,000 teachers and students. The GLOBE team you will work with is a highly collaborative, skilled and supportive group of developers, artists and content providers.

We are seeking a highly motivated mid level Data Analytics Professional with solid database, data analysis, QA and SQL skills to join our team. The GLOBE database currently has a large number of schools and over 250 million data records. We are looking for someone to work with our Sr. developers to perform QA, analyze and clean the GLOBE database – including providing reports to NASA and our stakeholders and identify opportunities to improve. This is a detail oriented task for someone who can dig in deep into the existing database system. Knowledge of Postgres, SQL, programming languages like Python, R or Java and experience with visualization tools like Tableau, Kibana and/or Power BI is required. Interest in science, education and international programs is a great addition.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage your experience with Postgres, SQL and data analytics to analyze the current GLOBE database and provide QA, metrics and reporting
  • Use Kibana, PowerBI or other related tools to improve reporting and implement new features and new ways of providing and improving data products to scientists, students and educators
  • Partner with our senior developers to learn the system and identify possible improvements and enhancements to the existing system
  • Analyze the data system and perform QA – finding opportunities to clean legacy data

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications


• Database knowledge including design, SQL, Data analysis and analytics with a focus on PostgreSQL
• Knowledge of one or more data analysis tools such as Tableau, PowerBI and/or Kibana
• Outstanding collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to analyze the GLOBE system and define reports to communicate and visualize system trends to NASA and our stakeholders
• Ability to identify areas for improvement and approaches to improving overall data quality
• A BS degree in the disciplinary area of Computer Science, Computer Engineer, or Software Engineering or equivalent
• 3+ years experience

• Ability to come up to speed on a complex system and envision reports and ideas to bring insight and improvements to the system
