Axient is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support AFRL in Albuquerque, New Mexico.   

  • The team supports the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Small Satellite Portfolio (SSP).   
  • AFRL manages a variety of flight missions and ground programs, focusing on greater levels of connectivity, autonomy, performance, resilience, and collaboration within the Hybrid Architecture.   
  • SSP is developing, testing, and transitioning small satellite technologies to support the Hybrid Architecture vision for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. 

What you will do...

Responsibilities

  • Receive day-to-day direction from the software development team lead as necessary to advance flight and ground code to space flight readiness levels
  • Develop source code in C, C++, or C#, and then compile and test within an integrated development environment
  • Develop test scripts or other utilities in scripting languages (bash, python, etc...), and run regression tests as necessary to validate requirements at the system level
  • Work with external test groups and be comfortable with fast-paced bug fixes and code deliveries
  • Learn an existing code base and eventually become an expert in its inner workings able to reconstruct, augment, and expand system functionality as part of career growth

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering: Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years software development or test
  • 1+ year coding in various scripting languages (Bash, Python)
  • Able to code or learn in C++ or C#

Requirements

  • Familiarity / interest in learning best coding practices for embedded, real-time systems and the ground systems used to command and control them
  • Excel in small dynamic teams and in a fast-paced development cycle
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET or TOP SECRET security clearance and handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations

Preferences

  • Experience in space or aerospace conditions, systems, operations, and industry
  • Familiarity with general orbital mechanics and space communications
  • Ability to work in a tight-knit team environment as well as self-driven for independent tasks

Position Type/Expected Work Hours

  • This is a full-time position, and on-site work is a requirement.
