Overview

*Must be eligible to be submitted for a Top-Secret Clearance upon hire.

AXIENT is seeking a Operational Energy M&S Web Development Engineer to join our team in the Orlando or Melbourne area. This can be a hybrid position.

We are looking for an individual with experience developing web pages and web-based applications for a position supporting the OSD Energy Innovation office in operational energy portfolios and related projects to develop multi-domain wargame software utilities, with particular attention to energy use and the Space domain.

Work will include some travel, estimated at 10% to 20% to various locations around the U.S.

Work may include overseas travel.

Responsibilities

The objective is to develop and deploy a software augmentation tool supporting military wargames, which are executed by teams of dozens to hundreds of personnel responsible for planning actions of hundreds of assets over timescales ranging from hours to weeks. Moves are vetted, submitted, and adjudicated on a 24- to 48-hour cycle. Manual wargaming processes take up the bulk of this cycle and detract from operational planning. Software augmentation is desired to bring the move cycle under a threshold of 24 hours with an objective cycle less than twelve hours per move.

This individual will be supporting the OSD Operational Energy Innovation office, its various energy portfolios, the U.S. Space Force, and other tasks as assigned.

As requested, the candidate will provide recommendations regarding software technical and operational performance, risk, and suitability.  Specific efforts include but are not limited to:

  • Develop software solutions to aid dialogue and collaboration between military operators and military acquirers.
  • Support development of operational energy innovation training and education software.
  • Collaborate with government labs, academia, industry, and across DoD entities (Services etc.) to identify software requirements and specifications.
  • Design algorithms and flowcharts to create new software programs and subroutines.
  • Produce efficient and well-documented code based on stakeholder-driven requirements and specifications.
  • Test and prepare programs and applications for release to the DoD.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and improve software.
  • Maintain strict and well documented version control, particularly as it relates to the current and previous releases of software in-development.
  • Work with the Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) and other Service M&S offices.
  • Produce technical documentation to guide future development efforts.
  • Supporting briefings and meetings as needed to meet OSD Operational Energy Innovation Office objectives.
  • Support organizational meetings and associated communities of interest by coordinating, conducting, and documenting operational energy innovation research with particular emphasis on the Space Domain.
  • Track completion of assigned actions and generate written/graphical materials and documents as required.
  • Support other efforts and tasks as directed by OSD government customer and assigned project leader.

Qualifications

  • Requires 5 years’ experience in web interface and web application full-stack development.
  • BS/BA Required
  • JavaScript experience required
  • React and Node.js experience highly desired
  • Python, Flask programming experience desired
  • Active-duty experience desired
  • At least 3 years’ experience supporting the DoD or gaming industry desired
