Axient is seeking an environmental engineer to live and work on Kwajalein Atoll to support the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command.  

What you will do...

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) contractor in support of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Command (USASMDC) Deputy Chief of Staff for Engineering (DCSENG) Environmental Division on the Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of Marshall Islands.
  • Provide assistance to the DCSENG in providing installation level environmental and engineering investigations and government oversight for USASMDC activities.
  • Support shall include (but not be limited to) supporting interdisciplinary environmental analysis investigations, remediation, and related engineering and scientific studies related to all USASMDC activities.
  • Assist the DCSENG by supporting engineering studies, NEPA activities, environmental planning support, installation environmental oversight, pollution prevention, historic/cultural/natural resources conservation/preservation, and other environmental support functions.
  • Serve as a project lead for NEPA document preparation for DoD activities providing management oversight and technical assistance.
  • Provide environmental expertise, analysis, and technical review for contractor-provided deliverables including, but not limited to Environmental Baseline Surveys (EBS), Description of Proposed Action and Alternatives (DOPAA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Resource Analysis reports, and Biological Assessments (BA).
  • Lead and execute extensive environmental compliance, climate change initiatives, and management support for DOD facilities planning, design, construction, operation and sustainment for DOD/USASMDC projects.
  • Support the planning and execution of multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPT) for Environmental stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Skills you will need...

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must possess an active and transferable DoD security clearance with current investigation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related Environmental specialty.
  • 6+ years of relevant work / job experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing environmental reports, environmental studies, developing briefing charts and graphs, and presenting material to high-level military and DoD civilian customers.
  • National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) experience, including Environmental Assessments (EA), Biological Assessments (BA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), environmental compliance background and experience conducting environmental site assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong written communication skills and be able to write clear emails and reports, make complex ideas accessible, and edit others’ writing to ensure accuracy. 
  • Familiarization with Army Regulation (AR) 200-1 Environmental Protection and Enhancement.
  • Experience or familiarity with DoD operations and environmental studies at Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of Marshall Islands. 
  • Previous coordination experience with cooperating agencies such as the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) and/or Registered Environmental Manager (REM) credentials or other professional environmental certification.
