Axient's Launch and Safety Unit is recruiting highly talented candidates to support a contract that provides full life-cycle support to the United States Space Force Assured Access to Space – National Security Space Launch (NSSL).


We assist the Space Force by supporting a multitude of areas, including Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering & Integration, Acquisition & Program Management Support, Mission Integration Management, System Safety & Environmental Engineering, Systems Security & Information Assurance, Launch Schedule and Risk Management, Certification of New Entrant Launch Vehicles. Axient is actively seeking a motivated, customer-oriented NSSL Quality Engineer to join our team in the El Segundo, CA area. Responsibilities include:


  • Provide Launch Vehicle Quality Engineering expertise.
  • Prepare assessments of Engineering Review Boards including risk recommendations.
  • Support Customer acquisition functions such as requirements development, request for proposals, and cost/technical/schedule/performance reports.
  • Perform quality engineering functions such as assessment of LV design, manufacturing methods, procedures, tooling, facilities, infrastructure, personnel qualifications, non-conformance assessment, material review boards, corrective action reports, calibration, environmental controls, quality assurance, non-destructive examinations, safety methods, regulations, supplier management, and transportation.
  • Prepare Customer team for, and support quality operations and anomaly resolution.
  • Plan, coordinate, brief, support Engineer Review Boards, program reviews, and other meetings.
  • Perform technical and engineering data management, such as data mining and reporting.
  • Collaborate with USAF System Program Offices, Aerospace Corporation, Launch Vehicle Contractors (LVCs), Subcontractors, Launch Sites, and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA).
  • Prepare weekly and other written evaluations and reports of a technical nature.
  • Other duties as directed.


  • BA/BS degree in Quality Systems. Engineering, Math, or Physical Sciences; will consider higher education in lieu of experience and more experience in lieu of education.
  • 10 years of experience in quality and/or manufacturing engineering.
  • Quality assurance processes and practices
  • Launch vehicle/space sub-system and process engineering expertise with a strong background in launch vehicle subsystems is a plus
  • Experience involving producibility or manufacture of complex products; application of modern quality principles and methods including: quality management system standards, product and process controls, measurement and test, audits, statistical applications, corrective and preventive actions, and lean manufacturing. 
  • Experience interfacing with computer-based database and schedule tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to present information in virtual and in-person environments.
  • Experience with MS Office tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as Adobe Acrobat is required.  JIRA/Confluence experience is a plus
  • Some CONUS travel required
  • US Citizenship required
